Elected members of the Montgomery County Board of Education would receive annual compensation equal to that of a Maryland General Assembly member (excluding Senate President and House Speaker), locked in at the rate in effect at the beginning of their term

The Board president would receive $10,000 more annually than the standard General Assembly member compensation, also locked at the rate in effect at the beginning of their term

Replaces the previous compensation structure of $25,000 annually for elected members and $29,000 for the president, as well as eliminating the Compensation Commission-based salary-setting process

New compensation rates apply only to terms beginning after October 1, 2026; current members serving terms that began before this date retain existing pay levels

Elected members remain entitled to health insurance and fringe benefits on the same terms as other board of education employees
