HB792 - Porch Piracy Act of 2026

• Creates a new felony offense for knowingly taking mail or packages delivered by USPS or delivery companies without the intended recipient's permission, with intent to deprive the owner
• Violation carries a maximum penalty of 5 years imprisonment
• Courts must order defendants to either return the stolen mail/package or pay restitution for its value as a condition of sentencing
• Interest accrued on overdue restitution payments is split 50% to the victim and 50% to the court
• Takes effect October 1, 2026
