Towing companies may require vehicle owners to present valid government-issued photo ID before releasing a towed vehicle without payment

Storage facilities may file civil lawsuits against vehicle owners who retake possession without paying or who pay by credit card and later dispute the charge

Civil actions cannot be filed until at least 10 days after the vehicle is released

If the court finds the tow was valid, the tower is entitled to the towing charges, liquidated damages of 2x the towing amount (capped at $1,000), court costs, and reasonable attorney's fees
