Repeals the restriction that required newly promoted police employees or deputy State fire marshals to receive a lower pay step if someone already in that rank with equal or greater seniority was at a lower step

Allows promoted police employees and deputy State fire marshals to receive pay at the same step they held before promotion, regardless of the pay steps of others already in that rank

Amends Section 2-405 of the Public Safety Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland

Requested by the Maryland State Police through the Judicial Proceedings Committee

Takes effect July 1, 2026
