Individuals enrolling in health insurance during a pregnancy-related special enrollment period may choose their coverage effective date: either the first day of the month when pregnancy was confirmed, or the first day of the month following plan selection

If the enrollee fails to select an effective date, the insurance carrier must select one of the two available date options on their behalf

Applies to coverage purchased both through and outside Maryland's Individual Exchange, for the enrollee or their dependents

The pregnancy special enrollment period remains 90 days, beginning when a health care practitioner confirms the pregnancy

Takes effect January 1, 2027, applying to all health benefit plans issued, delivered, or renewed in Maryland on or after that date
