Health insurers must reimburse for services provided by graduate-level clinical interns in counseling, social work, and psychology when those services fall within the scope of practice of their licensed supervisors

Services must be provided at an outpatient health care facility by interns enrolled in graduate programs and working under direct supervision of appropriately licensed professionals

Counseling interns must be supervised by a Board-approved supervisor meeting COMAR 10.58.12.08 qualifications; social work interns by a licensed certified social worker-clinical; psychology interns by a licensed psychologist

The supervising licensed professional must bill for the intern's services

Applies to all individual, group, and blanket health insurance policies issued, delivered, or renewed in Maryland on or after January 1, 2027
