Individuals convicted of crimes related to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol are prohibited from serving on state boards, committees, commissions, task forces, or workgroups created by Maryland law

The prohibition extends to positions in the executive service of state government and special appointment positions under state personnel law

Presidential pardons do not exempt individuals from the prohibition—convicted individuals remain barred regardless of subsequent pardons

Appointing authorities must take immediate action to remove or terminate any individual found serving in violation of this section, without the standard notice and hearing requirements

Effective date: July 1, 2026
