Custodians must allow inspectors general created by state or local law to inspect public records, including privileged or confidential records normally denied to the public

Access is permitted only when state or local law authorizes the inspector general to inspect such records and the records are needed to perform their official duties

Any redisclosure of records obtained by an inspector general remains subject to the existing Public Information Act restrictions

Amends Section 4-301 of the General Provisions Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland

Effective date: October 1, 2026
