Maryland General Assembly joins seven state legislatures and over 75 municipalities in passing a "Back from the Brink" resolution to reduce the risk of nuclear weapons use

Urges Maryland's Congressional Delegation to cosponsor a resolution in the 119th Congress supporting the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and the five Back from the Brink policies: eliminating nuclear arsenals, renouncing first-use, ending sole presidential launch authority, removing hair-trigger alert status, and canceling arsenal modernization plans

Urges the U.S. President and Senate to endorse the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which 74 nations have ratified as of September 2025

Notes Marylanders paid an estimated $2.1 billion in fiscal year 2024 taxes toward the nuclear weapons complex, while the U.S. plans to spend $1.7 trillion over 30 years on nuclear arsenal enhancement

Copies of the resolution will be sent to the Governor, state legislative leaders, Maryland Congressional Delegation, U.S. President, and congressional leadership
