Recognizes Maine's history of LGBTQ protections, including the 1993 amendment to the Maine Civil Rights Act and voter approval of anti-discrimination measures in 2005 and marriage equality in 2012

Notes Maine was the first state where the highest court ruled transgender students must access bathrooms consistent with their gender identity (2014)

Acknowledges state actions since 2018: nonbinary gender designation on IDs and birth certificates, prohibition of transgender exclusions in health insurance, ban on conversion therapy, and benefits for veterans discharged due to sexual orientation or gender identity
