Spouses of corrections officers who die from injuries received in the line of duty would receive a pension equal to 1/2 of the officer's pay at the time of death, with a minimum of $1,000 annually

Pension payments to a spouse continue until the spouse dies or remarries

If no spouse exists, minor children receive the pension until they die or reach 18 years of age

"Corrections officer" is defined as a person responsible for custody or direct supervision of individuals confined in a county jail who holds valid certification from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy

Extends to corrections officers the same survivor pension benefit that already exists in Maine law for sheriffs and deputies who die in the line of duty
