Prohibits Maine courts from imposing life sentences or equivalent terms of imprisonment for any crime committed on or after January 1, 2026

Defines "term of years equivalent to imprisonment for life" as a sentence reasonably expected to result in imprisonment for the remainder of the person's life, based on age at sentencing and other court-determined factors

Murder convictions on or after January 1, 2026 must receive a definite term of at least 25 years, but cannot receive life sentences

Aggravated attempted murder convictions on or after January 1, 2026 must receive a definite term of years rather than life imprisonment

Preserves existing sentencing authority for crimes committed prior to January 1, 2026, including the option of life sentences
