Effective January 1, 2026, Maine legislators may elect to receive their salary in approximately equal payments spread throughout the corresponding year of the biennium rather than in lump sums during sessions

Legislators who choose the annual payment option must make their election prior to the beginning of each regular session

Current legislator salary is $25,000 in the first year and $20,000 in the second year of each biennium (beginning December 2024), with reduced rates of $22,500 per year available for Social Security recipients

Annual cost-of-living adjustments apply to legislative salaries, capped at 3% per year based on Consumer Price Index changes
