Home health care and hospice providers in Maine may deliver services to Maine residents based on orders from health care providers licensed in other U.S. states or jurisdictions

Out-of-state ordering providers must hold a license in good standing and must have performed an in-person physical examination of the patient in their jurisdiction of licensure

Maine-based home health care and hospice providers must verify the out-of-state provider's licensure and make verification available to the department upon request

Out-of-state referring providers must ask patients if they have a primary care provider in Maine and, if so, make reasonable efforts to contact that provider and obtain their agreement to order the services

All contacts with Maine primary care providers must be documented in the patient's medical record
