Vehicle rental companies may obtain 2-year inspection certificates instead of annual inspections for their noncommercial rental fleet

Eligibility requires the business to have at least 1,000 noncommercial motor vehicles registered in Maine per year

Qualifying companies must file an affidavit with the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of State Police certifying their fleet will meet or exceed state inspection standards over the 2-year period

Inspection standards are governed by 29-A MRSA §1756 and administered by the Chief of the State Police
