Political parties may choose at their state convention (held between March 1st and August 1st of general election years) the method for selecting nominees in primary elections for the following general election cycle

Parties may opt out of ranked-choice voting for their primary elections and instead use an alternate method of their choosing, which must be incorporated into party rules

Party state committees must notify the Secretary of State by October 1st of the year prior to a primary election if using an alternate method

Secretary of State must publicly announce the method by which each party's primary election will be conducted upon receiving notification of alternate methods

Primary elections remain held on the 2nd Tuesday of June in general election years and are conducted separately for each participating party
