Prohibits copyright protection for works created by the State of Maine, including protection under 17 U.S. Code or any subsequent federal law

Exempts merchandise sold by state departments or agencies from the copyright prohibition

Allows the State to continue receiving and holding copyrights transferred by assignment, bequest, or other means

Preserves existing copyrights on state works created prior to the effective date of the legislation

Removes the Maine State Museum's existing authority to obtain copyright protection for research publications and information services
