Any increase to the Governor's annual salary with an effective date after the first Wednesday of January 2027 must be submitted to voters for approval or rejection at the next November general election

Any salary increase for members of the Maine Senate and House of Representatives with an effective date after the first Wednesday of December 2024 must be submitted to voters for approval at the next November general election

Cost-of-living adjustments for legislators are exempt from the voter approval requirement

Current legislative salaries are set at $25,000 in the first year and $20,000 in the second year of each biennium (or $22,500 per year for Social Security recipients who file a request)

Amends Title 2 MRSA §1 (Governor's salary) and Title 3 MRSA §2 (legislative compensation)
