HB-6241 Summary

• Prohibits health care corporations from denying benefits or reimbursement for health care services rendered by licensed dentists when services are legally performed.

• Defines "dentist" as an individual licensed under Part 166 of the Public Health Code (MCL 333.16601 to 333.16648).

• Applies the dentist coverage requirement only to certificates issued or renewed on or after October 7, 1982, notwithstanding any certificate provisions to the contrary.

• Restricts preexisting condition exclusions for nongroup certificate holders to conditions for which medical advice or treatment was received within 6 months before enrollment, with exclusions limited to 6 months after the certificate's effective date.

• Prohibits preexisting condition exclusions or waiting periods for individuals transitioning from group health coverage if they meet specific criteria including 18 months of continuous prior coverage with no break exceeding 62 days and are ineligible for group coverage, Medicare, or Medicaid.
