Cities and villages with 50,000+ population pay 12.5% of costs; those with 40,000-49,999 pay 11.25%; those with 25,000-39,999 pay 8.75%; those under 25,000 pay nothing.

International border crossing projects are exempt from cost-sharing requirements, with the state transportation department bearing the entire cost regardless of city or village population size.

State trunk line highway width in cities and villages must accommodate 20-year traffic projections, but cannot be less than current 4-lane standards unless mutually agreed otherwise by the department and local governing body.

Cities and villages requesting highway widths beyond department standards must bear the entire cost of extra width, minus any applicable federal highway funds.
