Beginning in 2012, the 4 at-large members of first class school district boards shall be elected for 4-year terms at November general elections when there is a presidential election, with terms of sitting members ending January 1, 2013.

Beginning in 2012, the 7 voting district members of first class school district boards shall be elected for 4-year terms at November general elections when there is a presidential election, with terms of sitting members ending January 1, 2013.

At-large board member candidates must obtain 500 to 1,000 signatures from registered school electors on nominating petitions filed 12 Tuesdays before the primary election.

Voting district board member candidates must obtain 250 to 500 signatures from registered school electors within their voting district on nominating petitions filed 12 Tuesdays before the primary election.

Board officers consist of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, with the secretary and treasurer appointed by the board but not required to be board members, and the school district treasurer required to maintain a separate bond of at least $200,000.
