Defines "teacher" for tenure purposes to include certificated individuals employed for a full school year by a board of education, and non-certificated individuals employed under section 1233b of the revised school code or with annual vocational authorization or temporary approval.

Excludes teachers employed in public school academies from continuing tenure protections during that employment, though individuals on leave from a school district to work in an academy retain continuing tenure in their original district.

Specifies that teachers gaining tenure in adult education or elementary/secondary education only obtain continuing tenure in their respective teaching category, not in other categories within the same district.

Establishes that teachers employed in non-classroom administrative positions (superintendent, principal, department head, etc.) do not gain tenure in those capacities if the contract explicitly states this, but retain classroom teacher tenure.

Provides that conviction of crimes specified in MCL 380.1230d or 380.1535a, or consistent ineffectiveness in teaching according to superintendent standards, constitutes sufficient grounds for discharge or demotion of tenured teachers.
