Senate Bill 977 Summary

• Changes language in the Michigan Vehicle Code from "pursuant to" to "under" in references to speed limit provisions.

• Adds new subsection (11) allowing speed limits posted as of November 9, 2006 in residence districts on dirt or gravel roads in cities, villages, or townships to remain effective unless the local government requests the county road commission to change them.

• Renumbers subsequent subsections (formerly numbered 11-14) to become subsections (12-15) to accommodate the new provision.

• Defines "vehicular access point" as a driveway or intersecting roadway for purposes of determining applicable speed limits based on the density of access points within a half-mile segment.

• Maintains existing speed limit framework including 25 mph limits for business districts and parks, 15 mph for mobile home parks, and variable limits (25-45 mph) based on vehicular access point density on certain highway segments.
