County boards of commissioners with appointed road commissioners may pass a resolution before January 1, 2015 to transfer road commissioner powers, duties, and functions to the county board by majority vote.

County boards of commissioners with elected road commissioners may pass a resolution before January 1, 2015 to submit the question of transferring road commissioner powers to the county board to voters at the next regular election.

If an elected board of county road commissioners is dissolved through voter approval, the county board of commissioners becomes authorized to receive and expend funds under the County Road System Act (1951 PA 51).

If a county road commissioners board is dissolved and the county drain commissioner office was previously transferred to that board, the county board must reestablish the drain commissioner as an elected office and appoint an acting drain commissioner until the next general election.

After dissolution of a road commissioners board, the county board of commissioners may submit to voters the question of readopting a county road system with a board of county road commissioners if it determines this would provide cost savings and better serve county residents.
