HB 5236 Summary

• Amends the nonprofit health care corporation reform act to modify reimbursement requirements for physical therapy services provided by licensed physical therapists or physical therapist assistants under supervision.

• Health care corporations are not required to provide benefits or reimburse for physical therapy services unless the service was provided pursuant to a prescription issued by a licensed provider under parts 166, 170, 175, or 180 of the Public Health Code (dentists, physicians, osteopaths, or podiatrists) or equivalent out-of-state license.

• Applies the same prescription requirement restriction to physical therapy services covered under prudent purchaser agreements.

• Makes technical corrections to existing statutory language, replacing "pursuant to" with "under" and clarifying various grammatical provisions throughout sections 502 and 502a.

• Bill effectiveness is contingent upon the enactment of House Bill No. 4603 of the 96th Legislature.
