Expands exemptions to firearms transportation restrictions by adding provisions for transporting pistols for lawful purposes when licensed by the vehicle owner or occupant under MCL 28.422.

Allows transportation of unloaded pistols in a closed case in the trunk of a vehicle for lawful purposes when the pistol owner holds a valid license from the vehicle owner or occupant.

Permits transportation of unloaded pistols in a closed case in vehicles without trunks when the firearm is not readily accessible to vehicle occupants and the pistol owner holds appropriate licensing.

Defines "antique firearm" as either a pre-1898 firearm with historical ignition systems or a firearm using pre-1898 ammunition that is no longer manufactured or commercially available in the United States.

Effective immediately upon approval by the Governor on December 20, 2012.
