Changes teacher professional development requirement from a graduated schedule based on days (1-5 days from 1997-2002) to a fixed requirement of 30 hours per school year beginning in the 2001-2002 school year and continuing each school year thereafter.

Removes the phase-in schedule that previously required 1 day in 1997-1998, 2 days in 1998-1999, 3 days in 1999-2000, 4 days in 2000-2001, and 5 days in 2001-2002.

Applies the 30-hour professional development requirement to school district boards, intermediate school district boards, and public school academy boards.

Specifies that professional development hours provided under this section do not count toward professional development required under section 1526.
