Health care corporation certificates cannot require face-to-face contact for services appropriately provided through telemedicine, as determined by the health care corporation.

Telemedicine services must be provided by a health care professional licensed, registered, or otherwise authorized to practice in the state where the patient is located.

Telemedicine services remain subject to all certificate terms and conditions, including copayments, coinsurances, deductibles, and approved amounts.

Telemedicine is defined as using electronic media to link patients with off-site health care professionals through real-time, interactive audio or video telecommunications allowing mutual examination and interaction during service delivery.

The requirement applies to certificates issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2013, and took effect immediately upon the Governor's approval on June 25, 2012.
