School districts, intermediate school districts, and public school academies must adopt a medical emergency policy within 6 months and work with local emergency responders to provide facility layout information including designated emergency entrances.

Schools must post on their websites and update annually the total number of instructional staff and the number holding valid CPR certification from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or comparable organization.

Beginning September 1, 2012, all individuals working in physical education or athletics must complete department-approved training in first aid, CPR (including mannequin demonstration), and foreign body airway obstruction management, with schools providing training at no cost to employees.

Schools must securely maintain emergency contact information and medical background/history for each pupil beginning September 1, 2012.

Beginning September 1, 2012, schools must have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) readily accessible during school hours in each building and within 50 feet of any athletic activity or event.
