Local units of government are prohibited from enacting or enforcing ordinances regulating the sale, display, storage, transportation, or distribution of fireworks regulated under the Michigan fireworks safety act.

Local governments may enact ordinances regulating the ignition, discharge, and use of consumer fireworks, but cannot regulate use on the day before, day of, or day after a national holiday.

Local governments may regulate the sale of fireworks by retailers at facilities where fireworks sales constitute the majority of retail sales.

Local governments may regulate the sale of fireworks from any retail location that is not a permanent building or structure.
