Commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Commanders Club of Michigan, founded in 1962 by business leaders and state government officials with assistance from Governor John B. Swainson

Organization provides a formal structure for Honorary Commanders appointed to positions in the Michigan military establishment to support maritime affairs and the Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs

Club was instrumental in establishing the Great Lakes Maritime Academy at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City in 1969, one of only six state maritime academies authorized by the Federal government

Sponsors and financially supports youth ages 11-18 in four Naval Sea Cadet and Navy League Cadet Units in Grand Rapids and Lansing

Assists the U.S. Navy with recruiting efforts and has supported placement of graduating Sea Cadets into U.S. Service Academies, ROTC programs, and various military branches
