SB 835 Summary

• Reduces the thirty-fifth district (Northville, Plymouth, and surrounding areas in Wayne County) from 2 judges to 3 judges.

• Reduces the thirtieth district (Highland Park) from 2 judges to 1 judge, effective upon the earlier of a vacancy or January 1, 2003.

• Consolidates the twenty-seventh district (Wyandotte and Riverview) from 2 judges divided into separate election divisions to 1 judge for the entire district, effective upon the earlier of a vacancy or January 1, 2003.

• Merges the forty-fourth district (Royal Oak) into the forty-third district (Madison Heights, Ferndale, Hazel Park) effective January 2, 2015, increasing the forty-third district from 3 judges to 5 judges, then reducing to 4 judges upon the earlier of a vacancy or when an incumbent judge's term ends.

• Abolishes the forty-fifth-a district (Berkley) and creates a new forty-fifth district (Berkley, Huntington Woods, Oak Park, Pleasant Ridge, and Royal Oak township) effective January 1, 2012, with 3 judges initially, reducing to 2 judges upon a vacancy or when an incumbent judge's term ends.
