Individuals accumulating 7 or more points on their driving record within 2 years are assessed a $100 driver responsibility fee, with an additional $50 fee for each point above 7.

Specific violations carry higher fees: $1,000 per year for 2 years for serious offenses like manslaughter or DUI, and $500 per year for 2 years for violations including reckless driving and driving without insurance.

Violations of sections 301 and 328 assessed $150 and $200 fees respectively through September 30, 2012, but no fees apply to violations committed on or after October 1, 2012.

Secretary of state may authorize installment payment plans up to 24 months, and as of April 1, 2013, may reinstate suspended licenses up to 3 times if the driver requests an installment plan and makes proper payments.

Fees collected are transmitted to the state treasurer, with the first $8.5 million annually credited to the fire protection fund and any excess credited to the general fund.
