Requires each intermediate school board and county prosecutor to meet and confer within 180 days to develop a local truancy policy applicable to all school districts in the intermediate district, except those with their own attendance officers.

School districts that employ their own attendance officers must develop a separate local truancy policy with their county prosecutor within 180 days.

Local truancy policies must address: definition of truant children, parent notification protocols, criteria for notifying authorities if parents fail to respond, and procedures for filing complaints or petitioning courts for intervention.

Policies must be submitted to the state board for approval, which shall approve them if consistent with state law purposes and procedures, or work with districts to develop acceptable alternatives.

Amends penalties for parents failing to comply with attendance requirements to include a fine of $50-$500, imprisonment of 2-93 days, or up to 50 hours of community service, in any combination.
