State agencies are prohibited from purchasing U.S. or Michigan state flags unless they are manufactured in the United States or a U.S. territory for display on state-owned, leased, or operated buildings or property.

State agencies are prohibited from purchasing U.S. or Michigan state flags for resale unless manufactured in the United States or a U.S. territory.

Beginning January 1, 2014, local units of government that purchase U.S. or Michigan state flags must disclose the country of manufacture on their internet website or, if unavailable, on their county's website.

Local units of government must update flag manufacturing disclosure information on their websites at least once annually.

"Local unit of government" includes counties, cities, villages, townships, school districts, intermediate school districts, community college districts, public libraries, and local authorities created under state law.
