Department of Health must develop a model bedbug prevention, management, and control policy by January 1, 2015 for use by local units of government and local health departments.

Model policy must include materials to increase knowledge and awareness of bedbug infestations and prevention methods.

Model policy must include best management practices to eradicate bedbug infestations in various facility types and methods to encourage reporting known or possible infestations to proper authorities.

Model policy must include proper methods for transporting, storing, and disposing of bedbug-infested materials, and any other information the department deems appropriate.

Local units of government and local health departments may adopt and implement the model policy developed by the department.

Bill defines "bedbug" as an insect in the genus Cimex and its eggs.

This bill becomes effective only if House Bill 5199 and House Bill 5200 are also enacted into law.
