MI HB5325

Amends the 1927 firearms licensing act to add "firearms records" to definitions, encompassing all forms, information, records, permits, and licenses required or issued by government agencies related to firearm purchases and registration.

Allows persons who registered firearms longer than 26 inches as pistols before January 1, 2013 to continue possessing them as pistols if registration was maintained without lapse and a copy of the original license is retained.

Permits owners of grandfathered long firearms to elect to have them no longer classified as pistols by notifying the Michigan Department of State Police.

Includes revised definitions of felony, firearm, misdemeanor, peace officer, pistol, and various officer classifications within Michigan's firearms licensing framework.

Takes effect December 21, 2014, but only if five companion bills (SB 49, SB 834, SB 881, HB 4155, and HB 5328) are also enacted into law.
