Amends section 726 of the Michigan Vehicle Code to allow local authorities and county road commissions to prohibit the use of compression brakes ("jake brakes") on portions of state trunk line highways within their jurisdiction that are within 200 yards of areas with a posted speed limit of 35 miles per hour or less.

Requires local authorities or county road commissions that prohibit compression brakes to post appropriate signs conforming to section 608 requirements on affected state trunk line highways.

Mandates that costs for erecting compression brake prohibition signs be shared equally between the local authority or county road commission and the state transportation department.

Defines "compression brakes" as brakes commonly known as "jake brakes."

Establishes that violations of compression brake prohibitions constitute civil infractions.
