Before January 1, 2015, townships, cities, or villages may publish notice in a newspaper of general circulation in March that weeds not cut by May 1 may be cut by the municipality, with costs charged to the property owner.

Beginning January 1, 2015, municipalities must provide "tier C public notice" under the local government public notice act instead of newspaper publication for the same weed-cutting notification.

The notice must contain all information required under section 4 of the original act and municipalities may cut weeds multiple times as necessary, charging all costs to the property owner.

Railroads remain exempt from the weed-cutting provisions and continue to be subject to section 11 of the original act.

This bill's effectiveness is contingent on the enactment of either Senate Bill No. ____ or House Bill No. 5560 by the 97th Legislature.
