Requires physicians and health facility personnel present for or aware of a maternal death to submit information about that death to the state health department for inclusion in the health information system.

Defines "maternal death" as the death of a woman who was pregnant at the time of death or within 1 year before her death.

Makes information submitted under the maternal death reporting requirement confidential and usable solely for statistical, scientific, and medical research purposes related to health causes or conditions.

Prohibits disclosure of maternal death information and related records in court proceedings or before any tribunal, board, agency, or person, except as necessary for statistical, scientific, and medical research purposes.

Clarifies that submitting maternal death data does not waive any legal privilege that would otherwise make such data inadmissible as evidence.
