Amends the 1933 housing act to replace specific references to "city, village, township, or county" with the general term "local unit of government" throughout the legislation.

Changes publication requirements for housing commission creation ordinances adopted after December 31, 2014 to use "tier B public notice with a link" as set forth in the local government public notice act, instead of requiring newspaper publication and posting in three public places.

Modifies election procedures for housing commission referendums to allow submission at the next general election or special election with reasonable notice, rather than requiring a special election within 15 days of petition filing.

Updates terminology from "empowered" to "authorized," "go into effect" to "take effect," and "voters" to "electors" for consistency with modern statutory language.

Makes the act contingent on House Bill No. 5560 of the 97th Legislature being enacted into law before this amendment takes effect.
