SB-0077 Summary

• Amends the Michigan Criminal Code sentencing guidelines (MCL 777.11b) to add 21 new felonies to Chapter XVII sentencing framework, effective February 1, 2014.

• Adds identity and document fraud offenses including false information on state ID applications (Class E-C depending on offense number), counterfeiting or forging state ID cards (Class D-E), and false representation to obtain personal information (Class H-C).

• Adds firearm and concealed weapon violations including false statements on pistol applications, unlawful pistol training certificates, and carrying concealed pistols in prohibited places (various classes with 2-4 year maximum sentences).

• Adds public safety offenses including fireworks safety act violations (Class E-C with 5-15 year maximums) and firearm sale violations without proper storage (Class G with 2 year maximum).

• Adds sex offender registration violations for failure to register (Class F-D with 4-10 year maximums) and failure to update information (Class F with 2 year maximum), plus sex offender residency and work zone violations (Class G with 2 year maximum).

• Takes effect only if Senate Bill No. 76 of the 97th Legislature is also enacted into law.
