Requires intermediate school boards and county prosecutors to meet and develop a local truancy policy within 180 days, with school districts employing their own attendance officers following the same requirement with their county prosecutor.

Local truancy policies must address: definitions of truancy, protocols for notifying parents of truant children, notification procedures for appropriate agencies if parents fail to comply, and protocols for filing complaints or petitioning courts for intervention.

Parent or guardian notification must include written notice requirements, expected parent response procedures, and warnings that continued truancy may result in criminal prosecution.

Adopted policies must be submitted to the state board for approval, which shall approve policies consistent with the law's purposes or work with boards to develop acceptable alternatives.

Increases penalties for parental non-compliance from prior law to any combination of: fine of $50-$100, imprisonment for 2-93 days, or up to 50 hours of community service.
