School boards, intermediate school districts, and public school academy boards must allow teachers, educators, and administrators to read or post excerpts from foundational U.S. historical documents including the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution, Federalist Papers, Anti-Federalist Papers, Bill of Rights, Pledge of Allegiance, and Northwest Ordinances.

Schools may display historical documents and objects that influenced U.S. legal systems and republican government, including the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, state constitutions, national motto, national anthem, and writings of founding fathers and presidents.

Displays may include documents containing religious language but cannot be presented to establish or promote religion; religiously-associated documents must appear in the same manner as other displayed materials without special emphasis.

Any display containing religious language must be accompanied by a prominent sign quoting the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution regarding freedom of religion and speech.

These provisions are collectively titled the "Constituting Michigan-Founding Principles Law."
