Exempts agents of the Department of Human Services Office of Inspector General appointed under the Social Welfare Act from weapons prohibitions in sections 224, 224a, 224b, 224d, 226a, 227, 227c, and 227d of the Michigan Penal Code.

Exempts employees of private vendors operating youth correctional facilities who meet criteria established by the Department of Corrections director and are authorized in writing to carry concealed weapons during official duties or travel to and from duties.

Requires that peace officers, Department of Corrections employees, and private vendor youth facility employees receive training on the use, effects, and risks of portable devices or weapons before exemptions apply under section 224a(1).

Maintains existing exemptions for federal and state peace officers, military members, National Guard members, security employees with limited arrest powers, and motor carrier officers.

Bill takes effect only if Senate Bill No. 843 of the 97th Legislature is enacted into law.
