Grade 6 and above students who commit physical assault against school employees/volunteers/contractors or make threats to kill them must be permanently expelled if reported to school board or district superintendent.

Students in grade 6 and above who make verbal assaults (excluding kill threats) or bomb threats against school buildings/property/events must be suspended or expelled at the school board's discretion.

Permanently expelled students are barred from all Michigan public schools unless reinstated; school districts can deny enrollment to students expelled from other districts under this section.

Expelled students may petition for reinstatement after 150 school days, with a review committee considering factors including risk of harm, student age/maturity, school record, behavior since expulsion, and parental cooperation; reinstatement cannot occur before 180 school days.

School districts must refer expelled students to county social services or mental health agencies within 3 days and report all assaults/threats to law enforcement; expelled students receive home instruction services funded at the foundation allowance rate.
