Designates April 2014 as Michigan Student Athlete Cardiac Awareness Month to raise awareness of sudden cardiac arrest among student athletes.

Recognizes that Michigan has lost at least 58 students to sudden cardiac arrest since December 1999, including four named students, and honors memorial foundations established by their families.

Documents that foundations have donated over 750 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to Michigan schools and provided CPR training, resulting in approximately 75% of high schools having at least one AED and at least seven lives saved.

Urges the State Board of Education to include AED training in health education courses, conduct regular AED drills, and educate students and families on identifying cardiac risk situations.

References recent legislation (2014 PA 12) requiring Michigan schools to adopt and implement cardiac emergency response plans, signed by Governor Snyder on February 25, 2014.
