Deputy Grant William Whitaker was killed in the line of duty on December 7, 2014, at approximately 2:11 a.m. in Stockbridge Township following a vehicle pursuit.

Whitaker was 25 years old (born June 29, 1989) and had served with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office for one and a half years, with prior part-time service at Stockbridge Police Department and Waterloo Township Police Department.

Whitaker was a Stockbridge native who graduated from Stockbridge High School and played baseball there.

The Senate honors Deputy Whitaker's service to law enforcement and the state of Michigan.
