Senate Resolution 199 honors Senator John Moolenaar for his four years of service in the Michigan Senate, commending his commitment to solving Michigan's problems and working with colleagues.

Moolenaar earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Hope College and a master's degree in public administration from Harvard University, and worked for Dow Chemical Company and other organizations before entering public service.

Moolenaar served six years in the Michigan House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate in November 2010, where he chaired the Veterans, Military Affairs and Homeland Security Committee and served as vice chair of the Appropriations Committee.

During his Senate tenure, Moolenaar sponsored legislation supporting veterans and increasing health professionals in Michigan, and authored the Fair and Open Competition in Governmental Construction Act, the State Forest Products Industry Development Council Act, and the aquifer protection program reestablishment act.

Moolenaar was named Legislator of the Year in 2011 by the Associated Builders and Contractors of Michigan, and the resolution directs that copies be transmitted to him and his family.
