Honors Justice Michael F. Cavanagh for his dedicated service to Michigan, adopted by the Senate on December 17, 2014

Cavanagh served over four decades in judicial positions, including Lansing City Attorney (until 1969), 54-A District Court Judge (1973-1975), Michigan Court of Appeals (1975-1982), and Michigan Supreme Court (1982-2014, serving as Chief Justice 1991-1995)

Elected to the Michigan Court of Appeals in 1975 as the youngest person ever elected to that position; elected to Michigan Supreme Court in 1982 and re-elected in 1990, 1998, and 2006

Mentored over 50 law clerks throughout his judicial career and served on boards for multiple organizations including Cooley Law School, the American Heart Association, and the Lansing YMCA

Senate extends appreciation and thanks to Justice Cavanagh upon completion of his Michigan Supreme Court service and directs transmission of the resolution to him
